Studies on the Present Situation of the Prostitutes in Pusan, Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
Prostitutes living in Pusan were carries out the investigation for the present situation.
The obtained results were as follows.
1. Age distribution: The youngest was 21 years old, and the oldest 43. The group below 30 years old was about two third of all prostitutes.
2. Education background: From illiterate to college graduated. The group below the graduated primary school was about four fifth of all prostitutes.
3. Distribution of birth place: The prostitutes from the rural area were twice (two times) more thar. the urban area.
4. The occupation before falling into public house:House wife was the highest distribution of all prostitutes and the occupations before falling into public house were worker, waitress, hairdresser, foreign dressmaker, aid nurse, cook, and so on.
5. Income per month : Income per month of prostitutes was from 10, 000 won to 100, 000 won and income per month of the majority of prostitutes was 10,000-20,000 won.
6. The motives of the first sexual intercourse: The loving affairs were the highest distribution of all prostitutes and the other motives were rape, marriage, prostitution, dissipation, and so on.
7. The partners of the first sexual intercourse: The lover was the highest distribution of all prostitutes and the other were husbands, relatives, vocational boy friends, and so on.
8. Age at the first sexual intercourse: The youngest was 13 years old and the oldest 22.
The majority of all prostititutes had experiences of sexual intercourse at age below 2U years old.
9. Age at menarche: The youngest was 12 years old, and the oldest 22, The majority had the experience of menarche from 15 years old to 20 years old.
10. Experiences of artificial abortion: About half of all prostitutes had two times of artificial abortion.
11. Methods used contraceptive: About half of all prostitutes had experiences of contraceptive. Methods used contraceptive were condom, oral pill, jelly, foam tablet, loop, pessary, and so on.
12. Experiences of smoking and drinking: About half of all prostitutes had experiences of smoking and drinking.
13. Savings per month: About one third of all prostitutes saved 10, 000-20, 000 won per month.
